Dos de sus miembros, Figini y Pollini, eludieron optar tanto por un obstinado clasicismo como por un racionalismo sectario, en busca de un renovado orden fiel a su tiempo a la vez que a sus genuinas raíces, encontrando la solución en la arquitectura vernácula mediterránea, donde lo funcional empatiza con tradición y naturaleza, subrayando paisaje, luz, volúmenes, ritmos y objetos cotidianos. Así, su actividad temprana vino marcada por relevantes experimentaciones en materia de vivienda, como la Casa Elettrica (1930), la villa-estudio para un artista (1933) y la casa Figini (1933-1935), que muestran una constante esencialidad, donde lo atemporal desdibuja cualquier estilismo, hasta lograr una sincronía de técnica y lírica como sensibilidad oculta de todas las obras.
