The Ville Radieuse is not a city. Nor a specific project: it is a concept and, as such, it is also expressed through words and images. It’s a book. Opposite to Le Corbusier previous proposals -The contemporary city for three million inhabitants, for example- it is not determined by only an image, but by many and very different presented in its pages: Nemours, Stockholm, Algiers, Antwerp or Geneva. The Ville Radieuse is represented in the 17 panels submitted to CIAM 1930, with six more in which He designs the apartments for his residential complexes. Because it is a city where housing, the man’s dwelling, is one of two main constituent elements. The other subject is the land, to which Le Corbusier will dedicate vehemently. There is no more to do than to look at the previous sketches (FLC 20506) or the project sections (FLC 24914) to confirm the vital intensity we can imagine in them. It is also a book that, as some of its predecessors, arises from the collection of articles mainly published in the magazines Plans or Prélude. It is configured as a theory of the city crossed by new concepts: "arabesque," "exact respiration", "effective height of housing", "artificial grounds" trying to make a new culture of living, where nature –not in vain, it is also named as Ville Verte- merges with life. Its drawings are a declaration in this sense. Not achieved and unrealizable it was the place where we can found the "joies essentielles", capable of satisfying the biology - another of the terms entered in the text- of man able to live in fullness. Only "the laziness and the fear" condemned it to the ostracism. Its drawings and sketches allude to all this, and only in his unités d'habitation we can glimpse the life that a city like that could have contained. 2021-01-11T12:37:44Z 2021-01-11T12:37:44Z 2016 info:eu-repo/semantics/conferenceObject Torres Cueco, Jorge; Mejía Vallejo, Clara E. “La Ville Radieuse: una ciudad, un proyecto, un libro de Le Corbusier.
