El primer reto consiste en delimitar conceptual y jurídicamente esta moneda virtual, y cuestionarnos si estamos ante una sofisticada estafa piramidal. En segundo lugar se analizan las razones por las que el uso de bitcoins favorece la comisión de delitos como el secuestro de datos o el criptoblanqueo de capitales. Finalmente se llama la atención sobre la necesidad de reforzar los mecanismos de autoprotección de las posibles víctimas. In the globalized and digitalized society of the twenty-first century, it is of great interest to study the relation between bitcoin and Criminal Law. First, the challenge is to delineate conceptually and legally this virtual currency and elucidate whether we face a sophisticated pyramid scheme. Second, an analysis follows on the reasons why using bitcoins favors the commission of crimes like employing ransomware or laundering money through cryptocurrencies.
