This chapter explores the interrelation of diatribe, medicine, philosophy, and rhetoric. After detailing the various meanings of the Greek term diatribḗ in Galen, as well as the context of his treatises on bloodletting, it thoroughly examines diatribic elements contained in those treatises through the lens of modern Communication Theory. Finally, the chapter shows that some of Galen's persuasive strategies featured diatribe elements facilitated by their inherent didactic nature. 2026-01-16T09:02:24Z 2026-01-16T09:02:24Z 2025 book part Publisher version: Durán Mañas, M.
