Heredia Mantis, María Malaver Arguinzones, Irania Pablo Núñez, Luis Sosinski, Marcin Multilingualism Linguistic Landscape (LL) Granada This chapter forms part of the research output of the Linguistic Landscape Observatory of Granada https://blogs.ugr.es/paisajelinguisticogranada/ and Paisaje lingüístico andaluz: cartografía del multilingüismo y la heteroglosia en la ciudad de Granada (PLANEO.GR) (Andalusian Linguistic Landscape: cartography of multilingualism and heteroglossia in Granada city), a 2023 MediaLab project of the University of Granada coordinated by María Heredia Mantis, of which the rest of the study co-authors are research members. The study data were gathered by the whole team and some student interns, although the chapter has been edited in its entirety by Daniel Sáez, who also wrote the introduction and the methodology section; the second section, on population statistics of Granada is the work of María Heredia; the section entitled “History, politics, and local identity in Granada” was written by Irania Malaver and Marcin Sosinski; finally, results as well as conclusions and discussion were written by the whole team. Part of this chapter was presented as a poster to celebrate the Cultural Year of Spanish in the School of Translation (Heredia et al. 2023). We want to thank Oliver Shaw, PhD, professional translator and fellow linguist, for revising the text for English grammar and style. This book offers a multi-contributor view on the linguistic landscape research in Spain, focusing on both monolingual and bilingual regions of Spain with an interest in initiatives that promote social and linguistic justice without neglecting migrant and international languages in the territory. The agency of speakers is highlighted, as well as the processes of linguistic hybridization and identity claims that are created in Spain. This volume analyzes the semiotic meaning of different languages, varieties, and discursive practices in different Spanish contexts from an ethnographic, multimodal, and critical perspective.
