La construcción múltiple de la memoria. Los relatos ante un intento de homicidio en el Colegio de San Pablo de Granada (1616)

Abstract

El presente capítulo de libro analiza la gestión interesada de la memoria por la Compañía de Jesús a tenor de un extraño intento de homicidio que implicó a dos jóvenes novicios del Colegio de San Pablo de Granada a principios del siglo XVII. Acontecimiento tan singular dio origen, no a un relato, sino a tres: el propiamente jurídico, el subjetivo elaborado clandestinamente por el acusado y el milagroso e interesadamente modificado para convertirlo en una historia edificante que pasara a la posteridad. En las páginas de la obra, además, están presentes, tanto la dimensión cotidiana de la vida religiosa durante el Barroco, como el origen social y familiar del protagonista del suceso.

This book chapter analyzes the interested management of memory by the Society of Jesus in light of a strange homicide attempt that involved two young novices from the College of San Pablo in Granada at the beginning of the 17th century. Such a singular event gave rise, not to one story, but to three: the strictly legal one, the subjective one prepared clandestinely by the accused and the miraculous and self-interestedly modified one to turn it into an edifying story that would be passed down to posterity. In addition, both the daily dimension of religious life during the Baroque and the social and family origin of the protagonist of the event are present in the pages of the work.
