Mobiliario de exterior en la época industrial: del jardín a la metrópolis

Abstract

La existencia de elementos urbanos que facilitan el uso de las calles, conocidos como mobiliario urbano, es relativamente reciente y se origina principalmente en el siglo XIX a partir de la utilización de sistemas de fabricación en serie durante la industrialización. Fueron los proyectos urbanos llevaos a cabo por Haussman en el Paris de Napoleón III, los que proyectaron una gran cantidad de objetos relativamente pequeños que servirían para da confort a las calles: luminarias, bancos, soportes publicitarios, sanitarios públicos, lementos de señalización, jardineras que se fabricaron en hierro fundido. Estos elementos se colocaron en las calles, boulevares y jardines de Paris, pero rápidamente se extendió su uso a las principales capitales del mundo, imprimiendo una imagen homogénea a las ciudades del siglo XIX. El mobiliario urbano tiene su origen en los jardines, es decir, en el mobiliario para uso al aire libre. El artículo recoge algunos datos de la evolución del mobiliario urbano desde los jardines en diferentes épocas históricas, pero principalmente en el siglo XIX.

Abstract: The existence of urban elements that facilitate the use of streets, known as street furniture, is relatively recent and originates mainly in the 19th century from the use of mass manufacturing systems during industrialization. It was the urban projects carried out by Haussman in the Paris of Napoleon III, which projected a large number of relatively small objects that would serve to provide comfort to the streets: lights, benches, advertising supports, public toilets, signage elements, planters which were made of cast iron. These elements were placed in the streets, boulevards and gardens of Paris, but their use quickly spread to the main capitals of the world, giving a homogeneous image to the cities of the 19th century. Urban furniture has its origin in gardens, that is, in furniture for outdoor use. The article collects some data on the evolution of street furniture from gardens in different historical periods, but mainly in the 19th century.
