El secreto de los Buendía. Sobre

Abstract

Este libro es una invitación a descubrir las claves definitivas de Melquíades. Su punto de partida es una hipótesis hermenéutica: si García Márquez estableció una completa identidad entre los manuscritos de Melquíades y su novela, lo lógico sería que, al igual que ocurrió con los manuscritos, también ella pudiera ser descifrada. Emulando, por eso, el proceder con el que Aureliano Babilonia logró descifrar los manuscritos del "gitano", este libro lleva a cabo dos tareas distintas: una primera, por la que se traducen o descifran algunos de los componentes más enigmáticos del relato (las metáforas y símbolos que lo convierten en un relato poético); y una segunda tarea, de carácter más estructural, que consiste en analizar la composición de la novela con el fin de restablecer el orden cronológico de los acontecimientos en ella narrados. El resultado de este doble trabajo es una original lectura según la cual la novela giraría en torno al secreto de los Buendía, que sería también el secreto de Melquíades y que tendría que ver con el verdadero origen de todos en el momento en que llegaron a América, procedentes de España y Portugal. Según se defiende aquí, tanto los Buendía como Melquíades pertenecerían, pues, a la estirpe de los judíos conversos, explicándose así el papel central que el personaje del Judío Errante desempeña en un momento tan trascendente de la novela como el de la muerte de la matriarca Úrsula Iguarán. El libro se cierra con un capítulo que explora la relación entre García Márquez y Kafka, autor al que se rinde homenaje en diversos momentos de "Cien años de soledad" y con el que guardan estrecha relación las "cucarachas" sobre las que Aureliano Babilonia diserta casi al final de la novela.

This book is an invitation to discover the definitive keys to Melquíades. Its starting point is a hermeneutical hypothesis: if García Márquez established a complete identity between Melquíades' manuscripts and his novel, it would be logical that, as happened with the manuscripts, the novel could also be deciphered. Emulating, therefore, the procedure with which Aureliano Babilonia managed to decipher the manuscripts of the "gypsy", this book carries out two different tasks: a first, by which some of the most enigmatic components of the story are translated or deciphered (the metaphors and symbols that make it a poetic story); and a second task, of a more structural nature, which consists of analyzing the composition of the novel in order to reestablish the chronological order of the events narrated in it. The result of this double work is an original reading according to which the novel would revolve around the secret of the Buendías, which would also be the secret of Melquíades and which would have to do with the true origin of all of them at the time they arrived in America, coming from Spain and Portugal. According to what is argued here, both the Buendías and Melquíades would belong, then, to the lineage of converted Jews, thus explaining the central role that the character of the Wandering Jew plays in such a transcendent moment of the novel as that of the death of the matriarch Úrsula Iguarán. The book closes with a chapter that explores the relationship between García Márquez and Kafka, an author to whom homage is paid at various moments in "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and with whom the "cockroaches" about which Aureliano Babilonia discourses almost at the end of the novel are closely related.
