Resumen
The present paper focuses on the Italian perception of the Strait of Gibraltar from different points of view: geographic (the strait and mount Gibraltar); literary (baptized as the Strait of Seville in Tuscan sources); and commercial, both through traders' networks and navigation lines and routes. It emerges a unitary image which strongly contrasts with the sense of frontier nowadays accepted.
