El paisaje cultural como patrimonio en Baja California

Abstract

Hoy en día, la apreciación del patrimonio se hace desde una aproximación que sobrepasa los elementos individualizados, y en la que el concepto de territorio sobredimensiona su valor. Este artículo aborda la construcción patrimonial en un espacio como es la península mexicana de Baja California, a partir del análisis de sus recursos culturales. Con una historia que hunde sus raíces en las etapas más remotas de la presencia humana en el continente americano, su realidad actual toma carta de naturaleza a partir de finales del siglo XVII con la llegada de los jesuitas a la región y la fundación de las primeras misiones después de varios intentos fallidos por establecer un poblamiento estable.

Nowadays, heritage appreciation is done from an approach that surpasses the individual components: the concept of territory strengthens its own value. This article deals with heritage in the area of the Mexican Peninsula of Baja California, taking the analysis of its cultural resources as the starting point. With a history that dates back to the remotest stages of human presence in the Americas, its current reality was consolidated both by the arrival of the Jesuits to the region at the end of the 17th century and the founding of the first missions after several unsuccessful attempts to establish a stable settlement.
