Dos pactos con el Absoluto: la herencia del Romanticismo inglés y sus problemas en la poesía de Jordi Doce

Abstract

Diversos autores de distintas épocas, desde Friedrich Schiller hasta George Steiner, han propuesto entender la modernidad como una conciencia de la alienación que separa al ser humano de la Naturaleza, al sujeto y al objeto, la conciencia y el mundo. Ante esta fractura, en algunos textos modernos se percibe un anhelo de regreso al Absoluto del que el ser humano se encuentra escindido. Por eso, los románticos ingleses, cuya poesía según M. H. Abrams expresa de forma paradigmática esta sensibilidad moderna, acuñaron la metáfora de la alianza y el pacto: un momento en que la escisión entre las dos realidades separadas se cauteriza. Este ensayo investiga la recepción de esta metáfora y las ideas que implica en la poesía de Jordi Doce, cuyos versos y obra ensayística hereda la problemática romántica. No obstante, Doce acoge una ideología moderna no exenta de dificultades, frustraciones y riesgos, de manera que este artículo indaga también en la problematización de esta herencia y los sentidos que tiene para nuestro presente.

Several authors have proposed to understand modernity as an awareness of the alienation that separates human beings from Nature, subject from object, consciousness from the world. Therefore, we can perceive in modern texts a longing for a return to the Absolute from which human being is isolated. Facing this fracture, the English Romantics coined the metaphor of the «covenant» or the «alliance»: a moment in which the split between the two isolated realities heals. This essay studies the inheritance of the metaphor and its implied ideas in Jordi Doce’s poetry. Nonetheless, Doce embraces a modern ideology that is not free from difficulties, frustrations and risks, so this essay also investigates the critical questioning of this heritage and the meanings of this question has for our time.
