dc.description.abstractThe notion of learner autonomy has become one of the main educational goals in the field of language education, but it is far from being a relevant goal in the practice of foreign language teaching (FLT). The main purpose of the present paper is to discuss the crucial role of teacher education in the enactment of learner autonomy in the foreign language classroom. In doing so, it advocates the development of a framework for teacher education aiming at fostering teacher autonomy, changing teachers’ beliefs about FLT, and implementing a case-based pedagogy towards a more learner-centred approach to language teaching. By means of one sample case, the paper analyses how this pedagogy can encourage prospective and experienced teachers to enhance learner autonomy in their teaching practice.es_ES
