Modernidad arquitectónica atlántica y restauración en Canarias: la casa Ossuna de Alejandro Beautell en La Laguna

Abstract

Este artículo aborda la reforma de la casa Ossuna (2009-2011), en La Laguna, Tenerife. Ante la multiplicidad de opciones, Alejandro Beautell concilia valores de la arquitectura popular atlántica con nuevos materiales constructivos de la arquitectura contemporánea canaria, y así acomete la restauración de un espacio doméstico del siglo XVIII. Los materiales dotan su intervención de gran unicidad conceptual, al privilegiar el valor histórico junto a la modernidad. La atemporalidad de determinados recursos arquitectónicos dificulta la estimación de la autenticidad y el discurso interventor; pero el rigor técnico en los procesos y actuaciones totalmente reversibles se convierte en máxima de esta actuación.

This article discusses the renovation of the Ossuna House (2009-2011) in San Cristóbal de la La- guna in Tenerife. Faced with a plethora of options Alejandro Beautell harmonises the principles of popular Atlantic architecture together with new building materials from contemporary architecture in the Canary Islands. By doing so, he takes on the challenge of renovating a domestic space from the eighteenth century. The materials provide the project with a great conceptual uniqueness as they combine the historic value of the building with a touch of modernity. The timelessness of certain architectural resources complicates the narrative as well as the ability to estimate authenticity; however, the technical rigour of the processes and actions that are completely reversible are the most relevant part of the project.
