In this volume a new approach to research is presented which the University of Granada intends to develop over the coming years. This new research avenue explores the development of ideologies and the exercise of power in Nasrid society, while also observing their impact on the social structure at large. This topic has previously received insufficient attention within the field of Nasrid studies because, despite occasional and very valuable contributions on specific aspects, no comprehensive approach to the Nasrid state's methods of exercising power has been attempted. The general characterization of the power exercised by the kings of Granada, which has only been outlined in the most general terms, remains the weakest link in Nasrid studies.es_ES
