¡Es que hace calor! O el triunfo del etnocentrismo

Abstract

This brief narrative based on a real experience of the author, during her work as a midwife, describes the scenario of a Muslim woman who goes to the delivery room and without information or consent, the scarf she is wearing is “ripped off” from her head. . The facts are analyzed and a reflection is made on the possible reasons why she could have acted this way. Furthermore, the principles of bioethics that this behavior violates are analyzed by not respecting the patient's autonomy, not being beneficial, and not being based on any scientific evidence, that is, being maleficent. It is concluded that, ultimately, it was an act of ethnocentrism, which violated the rights of the user. Professionals are encouraged to reflect on their care practices that, even without being aware of them, reflect attitudes of rejection of different cultures.

Esta breve narrativa basada en una experiencia real de la autora, durante su trabajo como matrona, describe el escenario de una señora musulmana que acude al paritorio y sin mediar información, ni consentimiento, se le “arranca” el pañuelo que lleva puesto en la cabeza. Se analizan los hechos y se realiza una reflexión de las posibles causas por las que se pudo actuar así. Además, se analiza los principios de la bioética que este comportamiento vulnera al no respetar la autonomía de la paciente, no ser beneficiente, y no estar basado en ninguna evidencia científica, es decir, ser maleficente. Se concluye, que en definitiva, fue un acto de etnocentrismo, que vulneró los derechos de la usuaria. Se alenta a los profesionales a reflexionar sobre sus prácticas de atención que, incluso sin ser conscientes, reflejan actitudes de rechazo a culturas diferentes.
