Mutilación genital femenina. Abordaje y prevención

Abstract

El libro se dirige a los profesionales sanitarios que han de atender a niñas/mujeres con Mutilación Genital Femenina (MGF) realizada, o en riesgo de que se la practiquen. Se destaca el papel esencial de los proveedores de salud, no solo en la atención directa de lesiones y consecuencias físicas y/o psicológicas, sino en la prevención y erradicación de esta práctica. Aunque son muchas las personas, y profesionales implicados en esta cuestión, los sanitarios tenemos un papel privilegiado, ya que podemos ser el primer contacto con una institución pública que tengan las mujeres procedentes de países donde esta práctica se realiza como práctica tradicional, al llegar a nuestro país. Superar los choques culturales y emocionales es un paso crucial para ofrecer una atención de calidad, y realmente se puedan cubrir las necesidades de información y asistenciales de las víctimas. Además, es necesario saber identificar los distintos tipos de MGF, para adaptar las intervenciones, destacando aquellas a realizar durante la etapa reproductiva, relacionadas con el embarazo y parto. Se describe lo que es la Desinfibulación, como una técnica sin alta complejidad, que requiere pocos recursos, con un bajo coste y con consecuencias satisfactorias, ya que revierten muchas de las consecuencias negativas de la Infibulación, incluida la realización de cesárea, si la mujer ha quedado embarazada. Se plantean los cuidados necesarios a aplicar, según etapas de la mujer, así como la atención ginecológica y medidas de planificación familiar a plantear a las usuarias. Resulta de crucial importancia que los profesionales identifiquemos los factores de riesgo en recién nacidas en nuestro país, en niñas más mayores, así como los indicios de que se ha realizado para intervenir y coordinarnos con otros agentes sociales, sanitarios, e incluso legales. Se ofrecen pautas a seguir en todos estos escenarios.

The book is aimed at health professionals who have to care for girls/women who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), or who are at risk of having it performed. The essential role of health providers is highlighted, not only in the direct care of injuries and physical and/or psychological consequences, but in the prevention and eradication of this practice. Although there are many people and professionals involved in this issue, health workers have a privileged role, since we can be the first contact with a public institution that women from countries where this practice is carried out as a traditional practice, when they reach our country. Overcoming cultural and emotional shocks is a crucial step to offering quality care, and truly meeting the information and care needs of victims. Furthermore, it is necessary to know how to identify the different types of FGM, to adapt the interventions, highlighting those to be carried out during the reproductive stage, related to pregnancy and childbirth. What Deinfibulation is is described as a technique without high complexity, requiring few resources, with a low cost and with satisfactory consequences, since it reverses many of the negative consequences of Infibulation, including performing a cesarean section, if the woman she has become pregnant. The necessary care to be applied is proposed, according to the woman's stages, as well as gynecological care and family planning measures to be offered to users. It is of crucial importance that we professionals identify the risk factors in newborns in our country, in older girls, as well as the signs that it has been done to intervene and coordinate with other social, health, and even legal agents. Guidelines are offered to follow in all of these scenarios.
