Fiestas y decoraciones con motivo del final de la Tercera Guerra Carlista: El arco de la calle mayor, liturgia, funciones e iconografía

Abstract

Con motivo del final de la Tercera Guerra Carlista y de la entrada de Alfonso XII en Madrid el 20 de marzo de 1876, la capital del reino vivió tres grandiosos días de fiesta, articulados en un complejo programa de actos. Con motivo del magno acontecimiento, en la ciudad se levantó un buen número de arquitecturas efímeras. Entre ellas destaca el arco costeado por la corporación municipal levantado en la calle Mayor. El objetivo de la presente investigación es ofrecer una visión holística sobre esta arquitectura, incidiendo en la liturgia que se desarrolló en él y sus aspectos constructivos e iconográficos.

On the occasion of the end of the Third Carlist War and the entry of Alfonso XII into Madrid on March 20, 1876, the main city of the Kingdom experienced three great days of festivities, articulated in a complex program of events. By the time of the greatest event, a good number of ephemeral architectures were built in the city. Among them, the Arch financed by the Municipal Corporation stands out on Calle Mayor. The objective of this research is to offer a holistic vision of this architecture, focusing on the liturgy that developed into it and its constructive and iconographic aspects.
