Agricultura en la ciudad

Abstract

Agriculture has been usually understood as a rural fact, however, we cannot forget that this activity is linked to the city since its birth. With the industrialization of the developed countries, the relationship between rural and urban areas started to become more complex, establishing a difficult gap to save. A distortion of the food process that put citizens away from fresh food production and management. This trend was rigged to the process of professionalization of Architecture and Urbanism. Since the mid-nineteenth century, the goal of both technical disciplines was increasingly clear, as well as away from the agricultural world. This paper states that since the beginning of this century, it is common to find some urban interventions that use agriculture as a key point. Despite being minority, they are changing their cities at a small-scale. Guided by concerned citizens, involved with the place where they live, they intervene in their environments trying to enhance social and natural cohesion, with few resources but with great enthusiasm and effort.

La agricultura se entiende habitualmente como un hecho rural, sin embargo, no podemos olvidar que esta actividad está unida a la ciudad desde su nacimiento. Con la industrialización de los países más desarrollados, la relación entre el mundo rural y el urbano empezó a hacerse más compleja, estableciéndose una brecha difícil de salvar. Una desnaturalización del proceso alimentario que alejó a los ciudadanos de la producción y gestión de sus alimentos frescos. Esta tendencia fue paralela al proceso de profesionalización de la Arquitectura y del Urbanismo. Desde mediados del siglo XIX, el objetivo de ambas disciplinas técnicas estaba cada vez más claro, y a su vez, más alejado de lo relacionado con el mundo agrario. Este estudio afirma que en los últimos años se está produciendo un cambio de mirada. Desde el comienzo del siglo XXI, aparecen cada vez con más profusión, intervenciones urbanas que tienen como uno de sus puntos clave la agricultura. Pese a ser minoritarias, están modificando a pequeña escala sus ciudades y áreas metropolitanas. Ciudadanos concienciados con el lugar en el que viven intervienen sobre su entorno, buscando la mejora de las condiciones naturales y sociales, con pocos medios pero con mucha ilusión y esfuerzo
