Pós pandemia COVID-19: a saúde mental e o bem-estar dos estudantes de Serviço Social

Abstract

A pandemia COVID-19 originou problemas no âmbito da saúde e das condições de vida social. É fulcral avaliarmos o seu impacto na saúde mental e no bem-estar da população jovem, sobretudo naqueles que estão a investir no Ensino Superior e em uma formação em Serviço Social. Constata-se alguns estudos que analisam o impacto na saúde mental e no bem-estar deste grupo específico, após o contexto pandémico. O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar o impacto que esta pandemia trouxe à saúde mental e ao bem-estar psicológico de estudantes do Ensino Superior. Para tal, recorreu-se a um inquérito por questionário aplicado aos estudantes da licenciatura em Serviço Social do Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre, bem como uma entrevista à psicóloga da instituição. Este estudo insere-se no paradigma de investigação qualitativa e é do tipo descritivo-exploratório. Os resultados apontam para a importância de, em todos os momentos da vida académica e particularmente durante tempos de incerteza e crise, como foi no caso da pandemia COVID-19, desenvolver um acompanhamento psicológico, bem como social, dos estudantes do Ensino Superior. Os gabinetes que prestam apoio psicológico, bem como o apoio social nas instituições de Ensino Superior desempenham um papel imprescindível para o bem-estar dos estudantes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused problems in terms of health and social living conditions. It is crucial that we assess its impact on the mental health and well-being of the young population, especially those who are investing in Higher Education and training in Social Work. There are some studies that analyze the impact on the mental health and well-being of this specific group, after the pandemic context. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact that this pandemic has had on the mental health and psychological well-being of higher education students. To this end, a questionnaire survey was applied to undergraduate students in Social Work at the Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre, as well as an interview with the institution's psychologist. This study is part of the qualitative research paradigm and is descriptive-exploratory. The results point to the importance of, at all times in academic life and particularly during times of uncertainty and crisis, as was the case with the COVID-19 pandemic, developing psychological, as well as social, support for Higher Education students. The offices that provide psychological support, as well as social support in Higher Education institutions, play an essential role in the well-being of students.
