Abstract
The present article presents the results of a study addressed to determine the existence of dimensions orprofiles to explain the reasons that lead boys and girls, 10 and 12 years age, to involve themselves in theparticipation in physical activities programs in their free time. The participants were all schoolchildren incourses 5 and 6th (10-12 years) from three public schools in Melilla (n= 439). Data were collected throughthe «Habits of Participation in Physical Activities Questionnaire». The results show the existence of twodimensions that explain why boys and girls of these ages involve in the execution of physical activities,found only by age and gender differences in the dimension «Competitive performance and socialinfluence»
