Excavar el territorio a través del mapa

Abstract

Entre las múltiples aproximaciones a la investigación sobre la transformación del paisaje, el presente estudio reflexiona sobre los argumentos que sustentan una metodología basada en la construcción de mapas. Para ello, se apoya en varias experiencias cartográficas que sugieren el carácter indispensable del mapa por diversas razones. En primer lugar, un mapa es el producto de un valioso proceso de encuentro con la realidad, posibilitando su comprensión, interpretación, representación y transmisión. En segundo lugar, permite excavar el territorio para establecer relaciones entre informaciones de distintos tiempos y acontecimientos. En tercer lugar, se trata del filtro necesario en la época actual de hegemonía de la vista aérea de nuestro planeta.

Among the multiple approaches to research on landscape transformation, this study reflects on the arguments that support a methodology based on the construction of maps. To do this, it relies on several cartographic experiences that suggest the indispensable nature of the map for various reasons. In the first place, a map is the product of a valuable process of encountering reality, enabling its understandings, interpretation, representation and transmission. Second, it allows the territory to be excavated to establish relationships between information from different times and events. Third, it is the necessary filter in the current hegemony of the aerial imagen of our planet.
