In this paper, the problem of the relationship between the baroque and modernity is
addressed through the study of a particular aspect, which is the relationship between the baroque
image and modern analytical representation. It is argued that the religious origin of the baroque image
gives it an important role in the world foundation’s dispositif that the baroque sets in motion, as well as
a special artistic character and an enormous ambiguity. The power of the baroque image is defined by
its allegorical character, reinterpreted in terms of monotheistic ontological figuration and its important
role in the historical process of the deconstruction of Christianity.
