Abstract
En el presente artículo se estudia la formación sanitaria que recibió el clero
sevillano en el último tercio del XIX. La adopción en el Seminario de la asignatura de
Historia Natural, Fisiología e Higiene (con la que se pretendía la inculcación de unos
patrones higiénico-morales y el reforzamiento de la doctrina católica-antidarwinismo,
etc.) venía precedida de la consideración creciente que la higiene había experimentado
en la sociedad. Estas circunstancias y la percepción que la Iglesia tenía de la crisis
finisecular, condicionaron la particular lectura que de ella se efectuó.
