Paisaje cultural urbano e identidad territorial. Cementerio, Medina y Ensanche de Tetuán

Abstract

El Ensanche de Tetuán constituye el mejor ejemplo de urbanismo español en el antiguo Protectorado. A diferencia de los ensanches desarrollados por los franceses en ciudades como Fez o Marrakesh, a modo de núcleos aislados, su estructura se configura como una continuación de la ciudad existente, adaptándose y relacionándose con el antiguo entramado urbano de la Medina. Esta es el resultado de la superposición de las distintas capas culturales que la han ido modelando y que ante la mirada contemporánea se enfrenta al reto de la globalización. En el lado oriental los Cementerios que conectan paisajísticamente con el Mediterráneo y con las dos cadenas montañosas que protegen la ciudad, el Dersa y el Gorges. Territorio, Ciudad y Arquitectura, es la escala de aproximación a una lectura profunda del paisaje antropizado, la ciudad compacta y la ciudad ordenada (Cementerio-Medina-Ensanche), para sumergirse en su arquitectura y en sus gentes.

The Ensanche of Tetouan is the best example of Spanish urbanism in the old Protectorate. Unlike the extensions developed by the French in cities such as Fez or Marrakesh, as isolated nuclei, its structure is configured as a continuation of the existing city, adapting and relating to the old urban fabric of the Medina. This is the result of the superposition of the different cultural layers that have been shaping it and that, faced with a contemporary perspective, faces the challenge of globalization. On the eastern side are the Cemeteries that connect the landscape with the Mediterranean and with the two mountain ranges that protect the city, the Dersa and the Gorges. Territory, City and Architecture, is the scale of approach to a deep reading of the anthropized landscape, the compact city and the orderly city (Cemetery-Medina-Ensanche), to immerse oneself in its architecture and its people.
