El uso y construcción del espacio en la vivienda popular

Abstract

La vivienda no se constituye únicamente por sus límites y formas físicas sino que existe una extensión de los espacios hacia los lugares donde se vive y donde se interacciona comunitariamente, dando lugar a la creación de un entorno social y culturalmente determinado. Los procesos autoconstructivos, aun en pequeña escala, juegan un papel muy importante en la creación de ese entorno ya que en ellos se prefiguran aspectos como las técnicas y el diseño arquitectónico que una vez concretados pueden establecer una cierta identidad del grupo autoconstructor y, por ende, manifestarse como contraparte de la arquitectura especializada.

Housing is not only constituted by its limits and physical forms, but rather it also includes the extension of spaces toward the places where one lives and interacts with the community, giving rise to the creation of a socially and culturally determined environment. The process of self-building, even on a small scale, plays a very important role in the creation of that environment. In this process aspects like techniques and architectural design are foreshadowed, and once identified they can establish a certain identity of the self-builder group and, therefore, manifest themselves as the counterpart of specialized architecture.
