Procesos simbólicos y percepción cognitiva de control

Abstract

La percepción cognitiva de control, definida en términos de predectibilidad y controlabilidad de los acontecimientos, es imprescindible para la supervivencia y adaptación al medio natural y social, configurándose como la unidad básica de cualquier pensamiento y acción. El sistema cultural en sentido amplio (religiones, símbolos, valores, creencias, costumbres, mitos, sistemas de poder, lenguaje…) funciona como un instrumento de defensa cognitiva de control ante la incertidumbre y aleatoriedad de los acontecimientos naturales y sociales. En definitiva, mantiene un sistema de referencias, una defensa cognitiva de nuestra mente que evite o reduzca situaciones de caos y de indefensión. La educación se configura como el factor determinante para la prevención y/o aprendizaje de éste proceso, convirtiéndose en el elemento básico del cambio social y cultural.

Cognitive perception of control, defined in terms of the predictability and controllability of events, is indispensable for survival and the adaptation to the natural and social environment. It forms the basic unit of any thought or action. The cultural system, in a wide sense (religions, symbols, values, beliefs, customs, myths, systems of power, language…), functions as a defensive instrument of cognitive control in the face of the uncertainty and randomness of natural and social events. It keeps a system of references which, together, constitute the cognitive defense of our mind that eliminates or reduces chaotic situations and instability. Education is regarded as the decisive factor for the prevention and/or the learning of this process, and is becoming the basic element of social and cultural change.
