El tratamiento del tema religioso en la pintura cubana

Abstract

La actividad religiosa se refleja en muchas facetas de la vida, incluyendo el arte. La obra artística, como creación del hombre, refleja las ideas del artista, sus inquietudes y apreciaciones estéticas y su reflejo de la realidad circundante. La plástica cubana recorre las diferentes etapas de la evolución de la idea religiosa en Cuba, reflejando la religiosidad del cubano, una mezcla de creencias ajenas a toda práctica ortodoxa, de escaso desarrollo doctrinal e institucional y que fácilmente se adapta a las necesidades del creyente, con el empleo irreverente de símbolos religiosos como forma de expresión artística, renovadora y ajena a toda afiliación ortodoxa.

Religious practices are reflected in many facets of life, including art. The work of art, as a creation of man, reflects the ideas of the artist, his or her inquietudes and esthetic ideals and reflection of the world. Art in Cuba has evolved with religion. Cuban religiosity is reflected in the disrespectful use of religious symbols in artistic language, a mixture of beliefs independent of any orthodox practice, without much institutional and doctrinal development and easily adapted to the needs of the believer.
