The goal of this project is developing a system that could analyze the vibration signals
generated by taping the wood samples in order to estimate their mechanical properties for
the main purpose of grading. The development of the project was composed of two main
parts: the first part integrates develop a software application that receives and analyzes the
audio signals and deliver fast and reliable mechanical properties results. The second part
addresses perform the non-destructive experiments using the RPi and cheap hardware, it
will contribute in introducing a new perspective of measurements.
This project is addressed from a double perspective: laboratory based measurements
and open field measurements. Besides, it is considered to establish a communication link
between this two scenarios for a better diagnosis.
The development and implementation of the software application is performed using
Python programming and Qt Designer. The software application require from an advanced
signal analysis for mechanical properties estimation of wood. The communication link
between the two scenarios is established using Python sockets.
The result of the exposed culminates with the delivery of a system that estimates the
mechanical properties of wood, which complies with the requirements defined in the
preliminary stages, and supposes the finalization of the Master.
