El valor de la vida en el rabinismo

Abstract

La vida es el más preciado de los dones concedidos por Dios, y la muerte, como final de la vida, el hecho más frustrante. Pero los maestros del judaísmo clásico se encuentran ante una realidad insalvable: vida y muerte son parte del plan divino. El valor que los rabinos conceden a la vida, desde cuestiones tan mundanas como el bienestar cotidiano hasta la más profunda meditación sobre la vida y la muerte, se enfrenta en muchos casos con la práctica de los preceptos religiosos. Queda determinar la postura que estos sabios adoptan al respecto. Qué libertad disfruta el hombre y cuál es el dominio de Dios a lo largo de la vida y en la propia muerte son dos preguntas que se repiten en la argumentación legal de la Misnah y Tosefta.

Life is the most valued gift granted by God, and death, as end of the life, the most frustrating fact. But the sages of Classic Judaism are before a fatefull reality: life and death belong to the divine plan. The value that the rabbis grant to the life, from questions as mundane as the daily well-being up to the deepest meditation on life and death, faces in many cases the practice of the religious rules. It is possible to determine the attitude that these sages adopt in the matter. What freedom men enjoy and which is the God's authority along life and death are two questions that repeat themselves in the legal argumentation of the Misnah and Tosefta.
