Aportes epistemológicos para vencer la polaridad antagonista cualitativo / cuantitativo

Abstract

En un mundo donde se impone la urgencia del dato cuantificable, antes que cualificable, como garantía de validez y objetividad. Aun en las investigaciones sociales se desprende una preocupación donde lo cualitativo intenta imponerse de forma semejante al dato cuantitativo como garante de la verdad absoluta en ciencias sociales. Planteamos dos hechos fundamentales: La imposibilidad epistémica de separar lo cuantificable de lo cualificable, para lo cual realizaremos un breve análisis al lenguaje descriptivo. Y la pretensión de otorgar supremacía a los métodos cualitativos sobre los cuantitativos en las ciencias sociales, lo que lleva a pensar que lo social o humano es conocible únicamente por el enfoque cualitativo, arrogándose la objetividad plena de dicho enfoque.

Today the importance of quantitative data prevails over qualitative, as a guarantee of validity and objectivity. Nevertheless, the social researcher is concerned with emphasizing the qualitative approach as a guarantor of the absolute truth in social sciences. We consider two fundamental facts: The epistemic impossibility to separate the quantifiable from the qualifiable, so that we will make a brief analysis of descriptive language. Then, the hope of granting supremacy to the qualitative methods, compared to the quantitative ones in social sciences, leads us to believe that the social and human being is knowable only through a qualitative approach, assuming a superior objectivity.
