Virtudes domésticas/acciones públicas. Las reinas atálidas y las transformaciones de la feminidad helenística

Abstract

La historiografía ha destacado a las reinas de la dinastía atálida gobernante en Pérgamo por su imagen como modelos de feminidad tradicional griega, ampliamente publicitada y usada por la propaganda dinástica, considerándose por lo general que su papel era fundamentalmente pasivo. Sin embargo, Apolonis y Estratonice, además de exhibir en el ámbito público sus virtudes domésticas, hicieron notar en él su agencia e influencia, encuadrándose en el fenómeno general de las transformaciones en las formas de estar las mujeres en público en el mundo helenístico. En este sentido, pudieron ser un referente para los nuevos modelos de feminidad que la cambiante realidad requería, y que fueran perfectamente asumibles por un sistema patriarcal en constante proceso de adaptación.

Historiography has remarked the image of the Attalid queens of Pergamon as models of traditional Greek femininity, widely publicized and used by dynastic propaganda, and considered their roles as primarily passive. Nevertheless, Apollonis and Stratonice not only exhibited their domestic virtues in the public sphere, but also showed public agency and influence, so they must be categorized in the general Hellenistic phenomenon of transforma tions in the ways of being women in the public sphere. In this sense, they could have been references for the new models of femininity that the changing times required, and ones that were perfectly acceptable by a patriarchal system in a constant process of adaptation.
