Nepotismo frente a competencia administrativa. Conflicto por los oficios de la Contaduría Mayor de Quito en la época de José García de León y Pizarro (1778-1784)

Abstract

Esta investigación pretende una nueva aproximación al tema del nepotismo y la corrupción en Indias tomando como referencia el gobierno de José García de León y Pizarro y la Contaduría Mayor de Quito. El enfrentamiento habido entre aquél y el titular de ésta, Juan Antonio de Asilona, permite avanzar algunas reflexiones sobre el comportamiento de aquellas autoridades y, al mismo tiempo, constatar el grado de permisividad y aceptación por parte de la Corona.

This research aims at a new approach to the issue of nepotism and corruption in the Indies taking as a reference the government of José García de León y Pizarro and the Accounting Office of Quito. The confrontation between him and the head of it, Juan Antonio de Asilona, allows us to advance some reflections on the behavior of those authorities and, at the same time, to verify the degree of permissiveness and acceptance by the Crown.
