Adaptación, transformación y pervivencia de la producción artesanal alfarera de Metepec, estado de México

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es evidenciar la adaptación, transformación y pervivencia de la producción artesanal alfarera de Metepec, estado de México, la cual se ha consolidado como una importante actividad económica y cultural para más de cuatro generaciones que continúan dedicándose a ese oficio. Por tanto, los artesanos han desarrollado acciones que han permitido innovar, adecuar, e incluso transformar las piezas para mantenerlas en el gusto de los consumidores, dando paso al surgimiento de utensilios libres de plomo, como cazuelas, ollas, jarros y platos, entre otros. Al mismo tiempo han ido incorporando artefactos decorativos en miniatura como el árbol de la vida, soles, lunas, porta retratos, figuras de animales y joyería. Así, los artesanos metepequenses han logrado tanto ampliar como fomentar la comercialización de sus piezas, lo que ha dado al municipio reconocimiento nacional e internacional.

The objective of this article is to show the adaptation, transformation and survival of the artisanal pottery production of Metepec, State of Mexico, which has been consolidated as an important economic and cultural activity for more than four generations that continue to dedicate themselves to this trade. At the same time, through their subsistence, an effort has been developed to generate actions that allow innovating, adapting, and even transforming the pieces to keep them in the consumer's taste, giving way to the emergence of lead-free utensils, such as pans, pots, jugs and dishes, among others. At the same time, they have been incorporating miniature decorative artifacts such as the tree of life, suns, moons, portraits, animal figures, and even jewelry. The Metepequense artisans have managed to expand and promote the commercialization of their pieces, which has given the municipality national and international recognition.
