Pabellón español en la XVI Exposición Internacional de Arquitectura de la Bienal de Venecia 2018

Abstract

La Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia es uno de los eventos más prestigiosos y documentados a nivel internacional. Sin embargo, frecuentemente, solo se conoce su imagen definitiva, de carácter más mediático, debido a lo cual se plantea esta investigación, que pretende revelar el proceso de diseño del pabellón de España en la XVI edición de dicho certamen, celebrado en 2018 bajo el título Becoming, así como de todas las actividades que formaron parte de su propósito, incluso las desarrolladas en espacios exteriores, aprobadas y supervisadas por la directiva de la Bienal, que se llevaron a cabo por estudiantes al igual que todo el contenido expositivo interior. Un estudio que parte de la colaboración que la autora del presente trabajo pudo desarrollar con el equipo encargado al efecto, comisariado por Atxu Amann, lo que ha ofrecido la oportunidad de disponer de una extensa información inédita, que viene a sumarse a la recabada de toda clase de instituciones y agentes implicados, con quienes se ha contactado al efecto, dejando ver el planteamiento esencialista del que tuvo origen esta exposición, que no se centró en el presente de la arquitectura española sino de lo que está «por venir».

The Venice Architecture Biennale is one of the prestigious worldwide and internationally documented events. However, image frequently, only its definitive one is known, of a more mediatic nature, due to which this investigation is proposed, which will reveal the design process of the Spanish pavilion in the XVI edition of said contest, held in 2018 under the title Becoming, as well as all the activities that were part of its purpose, including those developed in outdoor spaces, approved and supervised by the Biennial's directive, which were carried out by students as well as all the indoor exhibition's content. A study that starts from the collaboration that the author of this work was able to develop with the team commissioned for this purpose, curated by Atxu Amann, which has offered the opportunity to have extensive unpublished information, which adds to that collected from all class of institutions and agents involved, with whom it has contacted for this purpose, revealing the essentialist approach from which this exhibition originated, which did not focus on the present of Spanish architecture but on what is "to come".
