Abstract

Al tiempo que cohesión política, las celebraciones festivas desempeñan otra función crucial: la de recrear cíclicamente la memoria colectiva (al servicio de la esfera política, frecuentemente), enriqueciendo el patrimonio cultural de la sociedad en cuestión. Éstos son también nutrientes necesarios en la alimentación de un "cemento identitario" capaz de generar fuerza centrípeta suficiente para aunar la frondosa pluralidad de identidades a menudo no demasiado conniventes en el seno de un mismo Estado (muy especialmente en los contextos multiétnicos y multinacionales de África poscolonial).

At a time of political cohesion, the festive celebrations have another crucial function: that of recreating cyclically the collective memory (frequently at the service of the political sphere), enriching the cultural heritage of the society in question. These are also nutrients needed in the nourishing of a “identity cement” capable of generating centripetal force enough to unite the rich plurality of identities often not very cooperative in the heart of the State itself (especially in the multi-ethnic and multi-national contexts of post-colonial Africa).
