T is a mail art exhibition gathering more than 200 artworks in a postcard format from 25 different countries. The artworks received present a wide range of testimonies of people who have experienced living outside of their home country, using different artistic resources such as drawing, collage, photography or writing. The aim of this project, designed as a collaborative exhibition, is to collect testimonies and to raise awareness on the past or current situations faced by hundreds of people coming from very distant countries with completely different cultures. This exhibition allows us to collect the testimonies of travellers and emigrants in a meaningful location for this purpose: Casa Museo Max Moreau (Carmen de los Geranios). This building, located in the Albaicín district of Granada, was the home of the Belgian artist, painter and composer Max Moreau, after a non-stop travelling life. The call for postcards suddenly was conditioned by the COVID-19 world pandemic. On 14 March 2020, Spain was placed under lockdown for several months. The message of the EXIT call for Mail Art became a desire more than ever. The postcards, slightly hanging on colour threads with clothespins, expressed more than ever the motto of the exhibition’s project “Postdata Esperanza Recuerda”, carried out since 2013 and powered by the University of Granada. The excitement of knowing that most postcards have arrived, despite the tough times, makes this situation very special. the Spanish lockdown came to an end, we hung the postcards and we opened the exhibition on 30 June.
