Palabra y poder. El 'pütchipü' y el cruce de fronteras culturales

Abstract

La investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar y reinterpretar algunos aspectos del papel de los pütchipü (palabreros) en la ciudad. Se examinó una muestra representativa de pütchipü tanto de Maracaibo como de otras localidades en La Guajira venezolana. Las conclusiones obtenidas permiten establecer que los pütchipü viven en un incesante cruce de fronteras culturales y que su práctica se imbrica entre la sociedad nacional y el pueblo wayuu. Todo esto ha permitido que se den unos cambios en las funciones y característica de la actividad de los pütchipü.

This work analyses and reinterprets certain aspects of the role of the pütchipü (mediator) in the city. A representative sample of the pütchipü is examined, both from Maracaibo as well as from other localities in the Venezuelan Guajira. The conclusions establish the pütchipü as living in an incessant cultural crossroads and their practice is interlaced between a national society and the Wayuu people. All this causes changes in the functions and characteristics of the pütchipü.
