Otredades en la habitabilidad de un Monterrey moderno: primeros edificios de departamentos como alternativa a la vivienda unifamiliar

Abstract

Desde 1882 Monterrey dejaba su condición rústica, para dar paso a un irrefrenable proceso de industrialización. Monterrey siempre se inclinó hacia los códigos de vivienda unifamiliar, ya sea por influencias externas o por una aspiración de estatus, sin embargo, también hubo tipologías alternativas como la vivienda multifamiliar, especialmente la de los edificios de departamentos a pequeña escala, con cuyo tema se pretende establecer una dicotomía entre el espacio doméstico y el espacio público, a través de las condiciones de habitabilidad y otredad. Asimismo, se pretende mostrar que, a partir del crecimiento demográfico que Monterrey experimentó en la primera mitad del siglo XX, privilegiando el modelo de vivienda unifamiliar, de igual manera existieron alternativas en donde se plasmaba otra condición de modernidad, proveniente de la corriente europea, que se mezcló con la local hasta permearse en el imaginario colectivo de la cultura doméstica y urbana regiomontana.

Since more than 130 years ago, Monterrey faded its bucolic features, to yield an unstoppable process of industrialization. Monterrey always tended to single-family housing models, either by external influences or an aspiration of social status. However, there were also alternative typologies, just as the multifamily housing at small scale, whose theme is intended to establish a dichotomy between the domestic and public space, through the conditions of habitability and otherness. It is also intended to show that, from Monterrey´s demographic and urban growth in the first half of the twentieth century, period in which began to privilege the model of single family housing, on the other hand, there were alternatives where another condition of modernity was embodied, influenced by European School, hybridized with local domestic typologies until being filtrated in the collective imaginary of Monterrey´s domestic and urban culture.
