Género y modos de habitar en la Andalucía del siglo XIX

Abstract

En el siglo XIX el modo de habitar una vivienda era muy diferente según los géneros, y experimentó una notable evolución en un periodo en el cual la mujer fue ganando peso en la unidad familiar y visibilidad en la vida social. En este trabajo se confrontan los modos de habitar en dos tipos de hogares muy distintos, la espaciosa y compleja casa señorial y las casas de vecinos, donde la estrechez del espacio destinado a la unidad familiar obliga al uso de ámbitos colectivos. La investigación se centra en el último tercio de siglo XIX en Andalucía, periodo en el cual el impacto de la Segunda Revolución Industrial comenzaba a acusarse en los hogares de los países más desarrollados.

In the nineteenth century the way of inhabiting a house was very different according to gender, and experienced a remarkable evolution in a period in which the woman was gaining weight in the family and became more visible in social life. In this work, the ways of living in two very different types of homes are confronted: the broad and complex bourgeois house, and the houses of neighbors, where the space destined for the family forces the use of collective spaces. The research focuses on the last third of the nineteenth century in Andalusia, period in which the impact of the Second Industrial Revolution began to be felt in the homes of more developed countries.
