Abstract

La casa inglesa representaba para Muthesius la declaración directa del modo de vida inglés. De todo su estudio adquiere especial interés la descripción detallada de cada una de las partes que constituyen el plano final de la casa. Bajo su designación especifica la estancia adquiere su identidad. Sin embargo la casa también albergará un elemento capaz de generar un lugar propio: el bay-windows. Con él, la luz baña el mundo interior y vincula al habitante con el paisaje. Alison Smithson enunció los pequeños placeres para la vida. Trabajar junto a una ventana o ver la luz distribuida por el suelo fueron criterios que anunciaban que la casa ya no vendrá definida por el soporte, sino por las reacciones provocadas en el sujeto que lo habita. Será desde sus escritos y sus propuestas arquitectónicas donde se reinterpretará ese lugar cómodo y abrigado que tomará el nombre the winter-garden.

For Muthesius, the English house represented the direct statement of the English way of life.
