La restauración y la imagen a través del tiempo: las ruinas de San Francisco de Baeza

Abstract

El articulo analiza las diferentes actuacionesllevadas a cabo en la Iglesia de San Francisco de Baeza a lo largo de su historia. El edificio permaneció durante años en ruinas y reutilizado de manera inadecuada. En la segunda mitad del siglo XX, y a través de un largo proceso, la iglesia sufre diversas intervenciones que intentan recuperar la imagen perdida, adjudicándole finalmente un nuevo uso. Los años que duró su restauración, y los distintos arquitectos que intervinieron en el edificio, han permitido recoger diversos criterios en la praxis restauradora del siglo XX; distintas interpretaciones con una guía común, la influencia de Torres Balbás. El estudio se articula en base a la investigación en archivos y fuentes bibliográficas, así como en la observación del mismo edificio, analizando las distintas restauraciones sufridas y determinando las diferencias y similitudes entre ellas.

The study analyses the different interventions carried out in the Church of San Francisco of Baeza throughout its history. The building remained in ruins for many years and occasionally used inappropriately. During the second half of the XX century, and following a complicated lengthy process, the church went through a number of different interventions looking at recovering its past and lost image. The last project finally adapted it to its new use. The extended restoration process, and the several architects involved in the works, led to a comprehensive compilation of criteria for restoration praxis in the XX century; different interpretations sharing a common guide, Torres Balbas's influence. The article, conceived on the basis of archival and bibliographical research, as well as on the study of the building itself, examines the various restorations, in order to establish the differences and similarities between them.
