El historiador del arte como agente responsable de la conservación de la obra artística

Abstract

Historiador del Arte o Historiador de la Protección y Conservación del Patrimonio Cultural (urbano y rural, inmueble y mueble), son dos términos que no se pueden plantear como antagónicos ni diferentes, aunque se tienda a una especialización y la historiografía así lo refleje. En este sentido, el historiador del arte debe erigirse en agente corresponsable de la conservación de la obra histórica y artística en general, en base a su formación académica, que debería comprender no sólo la historia y evolución de los fenómenos artísticos, sino aspectos jurídicos, legales, urbanísticos, etc., que afectan o pueden afectar directamente a la protección –o desprotección– del patrimonio edificado y del patrimonio mueble.

‘Art Historian’ or ‘Historian of the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage’ – both urban and rural, real and personal – are two terms which, in spite of the growing trend towards specialization that can be seen in contemporary historiography, cannot be regarded as being opposing or different. The Art Historian should consider himself a stakeholder in the preservation of historical and artistic work in general, because of to his academic training, which should not only encompass history and the evolution of artistic phenomena but also other issues such as law and city planning, which affect or may affect the protection – or disprotection – of our cultural heritage, be it real estate or personal property.
