Las intervenciones en las rejas de la catedral de León bajo dirección de Juan Bautista Lázaro (1892-1895)

Abstract

Durante las intervenciones efectuadas en el siglo XIX en la catedral de León, el arquitecto restaurador Juan Bautista Lázaro acometió la restauración de las rejas interiores del templo. Estas intervenciones fueron de gran importancia para nuestro país, ya que se crearon talleres de forja, repujados y fundición de bronce, que a su vez dieron origen a una escuela de rejeros, haciendo resurgir, de este modo, este oficio perdido entonces en España. El presente artículo pretende mostrar las actuaciones que bajo dirección de Lázaro se llevaron a cabo en las rejas del mencionado templo, así como los criterios que las guiaron.

During the interventions carried out in the 19th century in the Cathedral of Leon, the architect and restorer Juan Bautista Lazaro undertook the restoration of the inner bars of the temple. These interventions were very important for our country, as they prompted the creation of workshops of forging, embossed and bronze casting. Furthermore, these workshops gave rise to a school of gatekeeper, resurfacing this lost job in Spain in that moment. This article aims to show the interventions that under his direction were made in the bars of said temple, as well as the criteria that guided them.
