Escritura final de Cuando ya no importe de Onetti

Abstract

En 1993, Juan Carlos Onetti publica su último libro, Cuando ya no importe. Si resulta difícil definir esa obra genéricamente, lo cierto es que se puede considerar como una obra de clausura ya que, a lo largo de las páginas que la componen, el autor uruguayo retoma minuciosamente todos los temas y personajes claves de su obra para acabar con ellos y con ella. En este estudio, que pretende permanecer muy cerca del texto, de sus palabras, intentaremos puntualizar los elementos que denotan el carácter final de la obra, revelando una verdadera mecánica de despedida literaria.

In 1993, Juan Carlos Onetti published what would be his last book, When it doesn’t matter anymore. It seems quite difficult to define this novel, generically speaking, but we definitely can consider it as a closing novel since throughout its pages, the Uruguayan author takes up all the themes and characters of his former books in order to end up with them and with it. In this study, that intends to stay very close to the text, to the words, we’ll try to insist on the elements that indicate the final tone of the book, revealing a strong mechanism of literary farewell.
