Ellas y Ellos. Un análisis de la fundación del convento de Santo Tomás de Villanueva de Granada en clave de género

Abstract

En el siglo XVII, las fundaciones conventuales femeninas aún presentan una fuerte influencia teresiana. Muchas mujeres tomaron la decisión de erigir conventos bajo el renovado espíritu carmelitano, aunque, a medida que trascurre el tiempo, aumentan las dificultades para lograrlo. A comienzos del siglo, los agustinos solo están representados en Granada por la Orden calzada, posteriormente se instalará la rama recoleta. La familia femenina no tendrá sus comienzos hasta 1636, con un humilde beaterio en el Albaicín que, a la postre, dará lugar a dos conventos de recoletas. El trabajo que presentamos intenta dar a conocer a las mujeres y a los hombres que, de una u otra forma, alcanzaron algún protagonismo en este proceso fundacional que se prolongó durante más de cuatro décadas.

Throughout the seventeenth century Teresian female monastic foundations still have a strong influence. Many women took the decision to erect Carmelite convents under this renewed spirit, although as time goes on increases the difficulties to achieve it. At the beginning of the century, the Augustinians are only present in Granada with Calced Order, then the Recollect branch is installed. With regard to female family of this Order, will not have their beginnings to 1636 with a humble beaterio in Albaicín that ultimately will lead to two convents of Augustinian Recollects. The present paper tries to explain to women and men who, in one way or another, achieved some prominence during a process that lasted for more than four decades, until the convent status.
