Abstract
domínio intelectual Cultural press was the stronghold of neo-realist resistance that supported a
counter-hegemonic discourse and action against Salazar’s dictatorship. In this field, it is
important to point out some feminine press in post-war time, such as Jornal-Magazine da
Mulher (1950-1956), directed by Lília da Fonseca. Published monthly, it explores the
potential of an illustrated magazine and itbypasses the silence imposed by the Censorship to
the public projection of Neo-Realism, including through news and reports. To that extent, it
combines the usual sections of fashion, handwork and childcare with the promotion of neorealist works, authors and key ideas, such as the politicization of art, education through art, or civil associativism, as well as the professional valuing of women, including in the intellectual domain.
