Abstract

El ardoroso debate intelectual, que se desarrolla a lo largo de todo el Seiscientos hispánico, sobre la licitud del reproche al rey desde el púlpito presupone la capacidad de distinguir lo útil de lo éticamente reprochable. Esencial resulta, por tanto, la adopción por parte de los predicadores de una estrategia prudencial basada tanto en el ocultamiento intencional de las verdades más peligrosas, como en la puesta en marcha de un refinado mecanismo comunicativo, en función a las reglas del decoro regio y de la moral estamental. El hablar oblicuo, la acusación silenciosa, la reticencia recatada son los resortes más eficaces para amoldarse al status del oyente, sin por esto renunciar a la tarea educadora.

The ardent intellectual debate, which is developed in Spain throughout the Seventeenth century, on the lawfulness of reaproaching the king from the pulpit presupposes the ability to distinguish what is useful from what is ethically reprehensible. Therefore, it is essential the adoption by the preachers of a reasonable strategy based on both the itentional concealment of the most dangerous truths and the implementation of a sophisticated communication mechanism in function of the rules of royal decorum and stratified morality. Speakin in a indirect way, silent accusation, demure reticense are the most effective techniques to fit the status of the listener, without thereby giving up the educational work.
