El cabildo eclesiástico granadino y las obras de la catedral en el siglo XVI

Abstract

El presente trabajo, dejando al margen las cuestiones artísticas, una aproximación a la actitud y gestión que el cabildo de la catedral de Granada tuvo, durante el siglo XVI, en las obras de su nuevo edificio catedralicio. La participación del cabildo en las decisiones, su papel económico, su actitud y opinión ante los cambios técnicos que se hicieron, quedan aquí planteados. Al mismo tiempo nos asomamos a la primera huelga de albañiles del siglo XVI producida en el transcurso de las obras y a la diferente posición que los arzobispos tomaron ante la nueva edificación. Desde el punto de vista económico, sin pretender un análisis de la cuestión, estudiamos las fuentes de financiación durante este período y nos detenemos en las inversiones realizadas entre 1537 y 1551, relativas a la estructura básica de la catedral, aportando noticias sobre los materiales, salarios y gastos de administración de la obra.

The present work is centered on the position and management of the Granada's cathedral chapter during the 16th century when constructing the new building, avoiding the art matters. The participation of the chapter in decision making, the economic role and the position concerning technical changes are the main points presented in this article. At the same time, we present the first bricklayer's strike that took place during the construction in the 16th century. We also analyse the different positions of the archbishops regarding the new building. The building funds during the mentioned period are studied from an economical point of view, emphazising the investments made between 1537 and 1551 that concern the basic structure of the cathedral and offering information about materials, salaries, and administration expenses.
