La mujer durante la menopausia puede experimentar una serie de cambios en su
vida por una serie de condicionamientos biológicos y otros de carácter social
(asunción de doble jornada laboral, convivencia de varias generaciones en el
hogar, etc.) que pueden producir una sobrecarga física y mental.
Se observan durante la menopausia una serie de manifestaciones clínicas que se
producirán, en mayor o menor medida, de acuerdo a las condiciones sociales y
ambientales de la mujer y en esa proporción modificarán su estado de salud y su
calidad de vida. Se ha comprobado que, además de la terapéutica médica
tradicional, una mejor adherencia a la Dieta Mediterránea y la realización de
programas específicos de ejercicio físico mejoran la prevención y el control de
enfermedades crónicas que se presentan en esta etapa de la vida, de tal forma que
la relación coste-efectividad de estos beneficios es un dato muy a tener en cuenta
para la planificación del sistema sanitario.
El objetivo principal de esta tesis doctoral es abordar la Salud Integral de la mujer
peri y menopáusica; de edad comprendida entre los 45 y 65 años, el cual engloba
componentes clínicos, sociodemográficos, psicosociales, hábitos nutricionales y
niveles de condición física y de calidad de vida en esta etapa de la vida.
Los principales resultados de la Tesis Doctoral muestran que la mayoría de las
participantes habían cursado estudios primarios y estaban casadas o con pareja,
tenían 2 o 3 hijos y, más de la mitad de la muestra presentaron un nivel
socioeconómico medio. Las mujeres con nivel socioeconómico medio/bajo
presentan mayor porcentaje de sobrepeso y obesidad.
