África disputada: los últimos años del África bizantina

Abstract

En nuestra opinión, el conocimiento de los últimos años del África bizantina se ve entorpecido no solo por la escasez de testimonios contemporáneos y no islámicos sobre el periodo, sino también y ante todo por la aceptación casi general y secular, de unos presupuestos historiográficos supuestamente consolidados y que sin embargo dejan de lado o minusvaloran una parte esencial de la información de la que disponemos. Asimismo, trataremos de arrojar nueva luz sobre este decisivo periodo de la historia del Magreb dando a conocer y valorando en su justa medida una serie de testimonios no islámicos y a menudo contemporáneos de los hechos, que habitualmente son ignorados y en el caso de la Historiografía hispana, del todo desconocidos.

In our opinion, the knowledge about the last years of the Byzantine Africa, are hindered not only by the shortage of the contemporary, and non-Islamic, testimonies about this period, but also and above all the acceptation, nearly general and secular, of a historiographical thoughts which are supposed to be consolidated and yet leave out or underestimated an essential portion of the information that we have. Also, we will try to shed new light on this crucial period of the Maghreb History, raising awareness and valuing in perspective a number of non-Islamic testimonies and often contemporary of the events, that usually are disregarded and, in the case of the Spanish Historiography, unknowns.
